Chrome LC vs. Whipsnakes LC Week 2 Recap

The defenses of both the Whipsnakes LC and Chrome LC  started out strong in the first quarter. Great communication off the bat for the Whipsnakes’ offense led to three goals early on by Mike Chanenchuk, John Haus, and Michael Ehrhardt.

John Ranagan of Chrome answered with a textbook bounce shot to finally put the Chrome on the scoreboard. Whipsnakes had a failed opportunity to answer back with a diving shot by Ryan Drenner as it went just wide. More notably, Drenner himself was pushed in the back by Chrome player Mike Manley, which led to exchanged jabs by both players and featured some brief interventions from Matt Rambo and John Galloway.

After an exchange of quick goals by both teams, Justin Guterding came in with a low bounce shot for Chrome, to tie the game up 4-4. With the game tied and minutes before the end of the first half, Jake Bernhardt made John Galloway pay with a quick goal for the Whipsnakes, as Galloway left his net to chase down a loose ball.

The Chrome started out the beginning of the third quarter red hot with a 2-point rocket from John Ranagan and quick goals from rookie Max Tuttle and team leader Justin Guterding, to put them in the lead, 8-5. This Chrome offense was helped by the amazing effort from their new faceoff superstar, Connor Farrell. Farrell, with his trademark Thor-like blonde hair, was 11-of-12 in faceoffs through the start of the fourth quarter.

The Whipsnakes came back to life with three straight goals of their own, two from Matt Rambo and one from Jake Bernhardt. Eventually tying the game back up 8-8, with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.

Romar Dennis and Ben Reeves exchange goals to raise the stakes higher and keep this one tied up at 9-9. However, John Haus ripped a long two-point shot to bring the Whipsnakes up, 11-9. The fight wasn’t over for the Chrome with Jordan Wolf scoring back-to-back goals to bring this back up to a tied ball game, 11-11, and sending it into OT.

For the second straight week, the Whipsnakes took home a victory in overtime. Ryan Drenner the hero this day, with the goal to lead his team to a 12-11 victory.

The Chrome play again June 16th at 2:30pm (EST) against the Atlas in Chicago.

The Whipsnakes play again June 15th at 5pm (EST) against the Archers in Chicago.
