Job Title: Manager, Player Engagement

Reports to: Vice President of Lacrosse Compensation: $75,000-$85,000; The total compensation package includes Health, Life, Dental, and Vision Insurance, 401(k) plan, Equity Sharing, Unlimited PTO, and Paid Parental Leave

Position Overview:
The Manager of player Engagement is responsible for driving and helping to execute a world-class player experience at the PLL. They will be responsible for leading communications with players, identifying issues or concerns, and working with the PLL Front Office and players to problem-solve and assist with any issues that arise. They will oversee The Player Advisory Council and play an integral role in developing the PLL Alumni Network.
Responsibilities: 
  • Develop, organize, and execute our player communication strategy
    • Manage outreach and all necessary follow-up
    • Maintain proactive, routine, and effective communication with our players via a regular cadence of check-ins and follow-ups
    • Act as the main point of contact for ad-hoc inbound player requests
    • Serve as a liaison between the PLL Front office and our players
      • Lead on the town hall meetings
      • Report trends and issues upwards
    • Hold routine player education sessions on key topics
  • Manage and lead on player marketing addendums, ambassadorships, contracts, and other compensation opportunities
    • Lead strategy on player identification for addendums, ambassadorships, appearances
    • Lead and organize communication with Player Agents.
    • Negotiate addendums and ambassador opportunities with the partnerships team
  • Lead and manage the Player Advisory Council
    • Manage and lead subcommittees
    • Individual feedback follow-up
    • Lead agenda build and outreach monthly
  • Help lead the PLL Alumni network: provide subject matter expertise on priorities, communication, and spearhead outreach
    • Quarterly meetings
    • Annual alumni weekend
    • Monthly outbound comms
    • Liaise with BD on alumni prospects/support
  • Serve on Committees as requested (ie. Discipline and Conduct, Rules, and Competition, Health and Safety)
  • Serve as the league medical liaison on all player medical needs: this includes injury support and communication, care needs, and follow-up, return to play protocols and workers’ compensation
  • Lead key Player Off-season initiatives:
    • Player wellness
    • Home city activations
    • Off-season partner activation
    • Aggregate feedback from players during the offseason to help the league continue to trailblaze the future of professional sports
  • Attend tentpole PLL Game weekends (i.e.All-Star weekend, Alumni weekend, Championship weekend)s
  • Lead and organize PLL’s post-playing career placement program
  • Other projects as assigned by the Vice President of Lacrosse
Qualifications: At least 5 qualifications (soft and hard skills)

  • Experience in working with athletes, agents, and league and individual sponsors
  • Strong conflict resolution background and experience
  • Contract review and negotiation skills
  • Independent worker who is a strong self-starter and can proactively identify and solve problems
  • Ownership and autonomy with given tasks and responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal ability, including public speaking
  • Proactive approach to responsibilities and learning
  • Deep understanding of the player experience and priorities
  • A hard worker who is a “doer” first; must be ready to roll their sleeves up
  • Highly motivated and eager to make an impact on the organization
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
