She’s from Sterling, Va. She went to high school in nearby Potomac, Md. She continued on to play Division I at Maryland, graduating in the top 10 in program history in points and assists. She now works for the program as an assistant coach.

As the first announced member of the Maryland Charm, Alex Aust Holman knows the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area well.

“I rep the DMV so hard. I think it’s the most powerful area in our country,” she said in a Dec. 16 team post on X.

The Charm are one of four inaugural WLL teams competing at the 2025 Lexus Championship Series at The St. James in Springfield, Va., from Feb. 11-17. The round-robin tournament will be played in the Sixes format, the style of play to be seen in the 2028 Olympics. Charlotte North was the first announced player on the Boston Guard, Izzy Scane on the New York Charging and Ally Mastroianni on the California Palms.

“The fact that Champ Series is in Northern Virginia, hotbed of lacrosse, Maryland Charm. I kind of think we’re the home team,” Aust Holman said.

Aust Holman played for the Terps from 2010, their championship-winning season, to 2013. Her 55 assists during her senior year are the second-most in a single season in program history. In 2013, she was a Tewaaraton Award finalist.

She wants more, not necessarily just in the stat book or on the trophy shelf, but for the expansion and impression of women’s sports, too.

“We just love any chance we get to compete for championships,” Aust Holman said on SportsCenter on Nov. 14. “So we’re just so excited to be able to showcase all the hard work we’ve put in and be able to uplift women’s sports on another level.”

Aust Holman said she grew up a Washington Commanders fan but lived in Baltimore for the past six years and married into a diehard Ravens family. She’s also a “massive” fan of Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, she said.

Aust Holman’s husband is star PLL attackman Marcus Holman, making her father-in-law Boston Cannons head coach Brian Holman. So when the Cannons and Charm play, there’s a clear hopeful victor in mind. But when the Commanders face the Ravens?

“I just hope both teams have fun,” Aust Holman said on SportsCenter.
