The Utah Archers have claimed Patrick Resch from the Carolina Chaos’ roster. Resch, the son of Archers defensive coordinator Tony Resch, is an 11-year veteran short-stick defensive midfielder who had been a part of the Chaos since their inception in 2019.

Because Carolina did not include Resch on its active or protected roster for three consecutive games, the Archers were able to claim him via the waiver process. To make this move, Resch must immediately be placed on Utah’s active 19-man roster for this weekend’s game.

In seven seasons with the Chaos, the 6-foot-3 Resch helped anchor the defense, scored 19 points (8G, 1T, 9A) and won the 2021 championship. He played in the first two games of this season for Carolina but hasn’t seen the field since.

Resch now joins his father on the Archers after years of battles between the two. On Friday night, in his first action with Utah, he’ll face off against his former club in a must-win game for the Archers (9 p.m. ET; ESPN2).

Utah had an open spot on its 25-man roster after Tom Schreiber was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday with a season-ending injury. Presumably, Resch will take the place of one of the SSDMs on Utah’s 19-man roster (Beau Pederson, Piper Bond or Connor Maher). But, with Schreiber out, the Archers could also dress four shorties and seven offensive players instead of the typical combination of three short sticks and eight offensive players.

Resch’s current contract expires following the 2025 season.
