The Utah Archers have ruled attackman Matt Moore out for the remainder of the 2025 season. Moore has been on the Injured Reserve list since late June with a right hip injury.
Moore scored seven points (6G, 1A) in his four games this summer, providing his typical value as a physical dodger on the righty wing. He led the club in touches and shots through four weeks before going down in the fourth quarter of the Archers’ June matchup against the Denver Outlaws.
Moore’s season-ending injury fits an unfortunate theme for the Archers offense in recent seasons. In 2023, Connor Fields missed the majority of the semifinals and then the entirety of the championship due to injury. Tom Schreiber went down for the year in the penultimate game of the regular season last summer.
The last two years, Utah has rallied and other players have stepped up. The Archers pride themselves on their depth and their culture setting them up to succeed despite injury.
So far during Moore’s absence, rookie Sam King has filled in valiantly at attack. King is tied for third among rookies with 18 points and has seven points in his two games as a starting attackman. He also leads Utah in scoring this season.
Yet the Archers offense has continued to struggle to put the ball in the back of the net week-over-week. Second-half scoring droughts have plagued Utah and the club is last in the league in scores per game (9.9). Goals in settled offense have been particularly scarce as the Archers have embraced running in transition more to take pressure off their six-on-six sets.
This weekend, Utah heads home to Salt Lake City to face off against the California Redwoods and the Denver Outlaws. Moore missed both games in SLC last year, and the rest of the Archers offense stepped up and won both games to clinch the No. 1 seed in the West.
The club will need to be similarly resilient on Friday and Saturday night as it looks to build on the momentum of last week’s win over the Carolina Chaos.
