The Carolina Chaos have signed former Philadelphia Waterdogs short-stick defensive midfielder Christian Scarepello to a one-year deal through the 2026 season.
Scarpello has spent his entire five-year career with the Waterdogs, playing 46 regular-season games with the club and winning a championship in 2022. The 29-year-old played in five games last season, sitting out the first four and Philadelphia’s regular-season finale with injuries.
The veteran defensive midfielder had a large impact on Philadelphia’s transition pick game, sacrificing his body to free up offensive players like Michael Sowers. He also scored three goals last year, including a two-goal performance against the Chaos.
PLL analyst Adam Lamberti noted that Carolina’s top priority in the player movement window was adding an SSDM to the roster and listed Scarpello as a top option. He’ll join Mark Glicini, Greg Langermeier and Ray Dearth on a Chaos defense backstopped by goalie Blaze Riorden (No. 7 on the 2025 Players Top 50), close defensemen Jack Rowlett (No. 14) and Jarrod Neumann, and long-stick midfielder Troy Reh (No. 40).
Carolina relied on fast substitutions during transition last season from rookies Langermeier and Dearth. Scarpello’s transition game can provide a new, threatening layer to the team’s offense in unsettled looks.
