Grant Ament out of 2025 Lexus Championship due to right calf injury

Grant Ament is officially out of the 2025 Lexus Championship Series because of a right calf injury.
The All-Pro midfielder will miss his second consecutive Championship Series due to injury after he was similarly ruled out before the 2024 tournament. It’s a big blow for the Utah Archers, who are looking to avenge their winless campaign at last year’s Champ Series.
Jackson Morrill will replace Ament in Utah’s 13-man roster. Morrill joined the Archers after a late-season trade last summer but hasn’t suited up for the club yet. He brings Champ Series experience as a member of the 2023 Chrome that won the inaugural edition.Â
Morrill is a capable substitute. Yet Ament’s absence takes the Archers’ most dynamic offensive weapon off the table. Utah will miss Ament’s ability to win a one-on-one matchup and either score for himself or find an open teammate.
The onus will now fall on Matt Moore and Mac O’Keefe to lead the club offensively. Defensively, however, is where the Archers will need to thrive, especially now that Ament is out. Piper Bond, Beau Pederson, Connor Maher and Mason Woodward could be the best defensive combination in the tournament.Â
Utah’s first matchup next week will be the Boston Cannons. The two squads face off on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
