Marcus Holman continues to climb the ranks of pro lacrosse royalty.

With his 355th career goal in Saturday’s 18-17 loss to the Denver Outlaws, Holman tied Cannons legend and 2025 Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee Paul Rabil for second on the all-time goals list – while wearing the same Boston uniform Rabil also once donned, no less. Only John Grant Jr. (393) remains ahead of them.

“It’s really cool,” Holman said after the game. “I had an opportunity to play with Paul on Team USA in 2014 and ’18 and just be in the locker room with him. Like I’ve said before, Paul set the standard.”

The milestone came just weeks after Holman became the fourth player in pro lacrosse history to reach 500 career points. Now, he’s added another historic milestone to his resume.

The Cannons attackman’s performance on Saturday was vintage Marcus Holman: two goals, one assist and a two-pointer, helping Boston post its highest offensive output of the season.

With only three regular-season games remaining in 2025 for the Cannons, Holman won’t catch Grant Jr. this year – he’d need 39 goals to do it. But the path to the top is far from closed.

At 34 years old, Holman remains a productive scorer for Boston. Through seven games this season, he’s scored 10 goals, including three from two-point range, and added four assists, bringing his season total to 17 points.

Looking at his career averages – roughly 3.4 points per game and over 2 goals per game – Holman would likely need about two more full seasons at his current pace to surpass Jr.’s 393 goals. But that timeline could accelerate if he continues to find success from range, as he’s already matched his career high in two-pointers this season.

With Boston currently sitting last in the Eastern Conference at 3-4, the record book is the last thing on Holman’s mind. The Cannons will need to claw their way back up the conference standings with three tough opponents left on their schedule in the Philadelphia Waterdogs, California Redwoods and Maryland Whipsnakes.

“All these records in a three-game losing streak is tough,” Holman said. “I’ll look back when I hang up the jersey and be proud of it, but I want to get us back in the win column and just keep pushing forward with this team and getting better as we move towards the playoffs.”
