Our Action Plan for Goal 6: Promoting Environmental Sustainability

Building on last month’s announcement of our recently restructured PLL Assists structure, we would like to provide a deeper look into Goal 6 and our efforts to promote environmental sustainability.

We are thrilled to announce our membership in the Green Sports Alliance, an organization that leverages the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where people live and play. The Alliance inspires professional sports leagues, teams, venues, fans, etc., to embrace renewable energy, healthy food, recycling, water efficiency, safer chemicals and other environmentally preferable practices. With the support and guidance of our friends at the Green Sports Alliance, we are confident that we will see continuous growth in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and inspire positive change in the greater lacrosse community.

PLL Assists’ newly launched environmental sustainability program will have three key focuses:

1 - Waste Prevention

As a league, we are committed to reviewing and evaluating our existing practices with respect to waste management in our offices, locker rooms and in stadium venues. We are working to strategically mitigate and prevent any and all practices that allow for waste of food, beverages, etc. We are also committing to teaming up with local partners to turn any unavoidable food waste into compost. As we work to achieve our goal of achieving zero waste, we encourage fans to join us in our efforts, both at PLL Games and at home.

2 - Reusing and Recycling

The PLL is committed to engaging in environmentally-friendly protocols concerning disposal of gear including, but not limited to: broken handles, used athletic tape, and any other in-game equipment. We will shift to an integration of reusable items into our daily practices in both of our corporate offices, and commit to an effective and efficient strategy for recycling non-biodegradable waste, including: paper, plastic, metal, glass, and cardboard in all of our stadiums and in our respective headquarters.

3 - Building a Sustainable Legacy

As a tour-based league, the PLL endeavors to leave communities with which we interact better than how we found them. What does this mean? We aim to strategically identify intersections between sustainability, justice and growth opportunities, in order to support the communities with which we engage. Being mindful of the unique needs of the various cities and regions in which we operate and host PLL events, we will work to actively support the sustainability goals of cities throughout North America through our collaboration with organizations in each location.
