Pat Kavanagh traded from Cannons to Outlaws for third overall pick

The Boston Cannons traded attackman Pat Kavanagh to the Denver Outlaws on Thursday in exchange for the third overall pick in the 2025 College Draft and a second-round pick 2026.
Kavanagh, the sixth overall pick in last year's draft, is the reigning Tewaaraton Award winner and a two-time national champion at Notre Dame. He joined his brother Matt with Boston in his rookie season, but injuries limited his availability throughout the year. The younger Kavanagh finished the season with eight goals and four assists in six games.
For Denver, the trade brings a massive boost to a young offense. Last season's draft brought superstar Brennan O'Neill and a strong supporting cast led by Graham Bundy Jr. and Josh Zawada. Now the Outlaws add another standout from the 2024 class to anchor their attack line for the foreseeable future.
Kavanagh will provide playmaking and dodging ability to complement Denver's established core of shooters and goal-scorers like Bundy and O'Neill.
Outlaws head coach Tim Soudan has long admired Kavanagh's game and his skill set. At one point, Denver considered Kavanagh with the first overall pick in last year's draft before ultimately settling on O'Neill. Soudan-led teams often thrive with a strong playmaking presence behind the cage. Kavanagh could be the next in line for that role.
For Boston, the trade clears a logjam on offense and adds valuable draft capital for the future. Even when healthy, Kavanagh bounced between attack and midfield and never really settled into a role offensively. With Asher Nolting at X, it was hard to get Kavanagh into his best position on the field.
Now, the Cannons will look to the 2025 class to reload for a title chase next season.
