PLL Fantasy: Paul’s top 5 for Denver Weekend
By Paul Lamonaca | Aug 9, 2024
5. Bryan Costabile, Midfield, New York Atlas
In the Atlas’ last two games against Boston and Philadelphia, Costabile finished with more fantasy points than Xander Dickson and Connor Shellenberger, respectively.
Costabile brings the perfect balance to New York’s attack, adding another element to their fast-paced tempo with the ability to stretch the field from the two-point line.
The Utah Archers, whom the Atlas will face on Saturday, have one of the best defenses in the PLL backed by goaltender Brett Dobson, who is second in the league in save percentage.
If New York’s attack starts seeing its opportunities diminish, the Atlas will look to Costabile to contribute
4. Zed Williams, Attack, Maryland Whipsnakes
With TJ Malone listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, I would expect an increase in Williams’ touches against the Denver Outlaws. Williams is another player who has turned on the burners in the second half of the season.
Over his last four games, Williams has averaged 38.25 fantasy points. He has been spearheading Maryland's success since San Diego Weekend.
Though he’s priced at 42 salary coins, Williams is a safer bet than Malone, who is priced at 44 and might not play.
3. Cole Kirst, Midfield, California Redwoods
After spending some time on California’s protected roster and ultimately not dressing for several games, Kirst has seemed to find his groove, averaging 23 fantasy points over his last three games.
What intrigues me more about Kirst is that he has the highest shooting percentage out of the entire Redwoods midfield group.
With Kirst being their best playmaker from the box recently, expect him to see more passes coming his way along with an uptick in dodges from the wing.
Kirst is a textbook downhill dodger and is not afraid to go to the net if he sees the chance.
2. Trevor Baptiste, Faceoff, New York Atlas
Prior to New York’s bye week, Baptiste was on a dominant tear. He averaged 31.36 fantasy points over his last three games, leading all faceoff specialists.
This week, Baptiste and Utah’s Mike Sisselberger will face each other for the first time this season. Despite Sisselberger’s fantasy totals trending in the right direction over the past few weeks, I would invest 32 fantasy coins into Baptiste on Saturday.
If you need any more assurance to take Baptiste, it is worth noting that he has the most points out of all faceoff specialists with six (5G, 1A) this season.
1. Owen McElroy, Goalie, Denver Outlaws
If there was an official Breakout Player of the Year award, McElroy would be a serious contender to win it.
The third-year pro has been the backbone of a Denver team that has a winning record going into its Homecoming weekend. McElroy has averaged 25 fantasy points per game this season and continues to shine on a weekly basis.
With question marks raised on Maryland’s offense with Tucker Dordevic out and Levi Anderson, Colin Heacock and Malone all listed as questionable, McElroy can put up big numbers against a banged-up Whips group.
