PLL Fantasy: Paul’s top 5 for San Diego
By Paul Lamonaca | Jul 26, 2024
5. Tucker Dordevic, Midfield, Maryland Whipsnakes
Dordevic made his 2024 debut last weekend after battling a lower body injury for the first half of the season, and the 2023 Rookie of the Year notched his first goal of the season on the Whipsnakes’ first offensive possession against the Carolina Chaos.
Dordevic brings much needed firepower to the Whipsnakes’ midfield line. His ability to create offense for himself with both hands is unparalleled.
Dordevic comes at a bargain of only 14 salary coins. I love his matchup against the California Redwoods this weekend. California continues to have goaltending struggles and ranks as one of the worst defenses in the PLL.
4. Justin Anderson, SSDM, Denver Outlaws
Anderson has taken on more of a two-way role this season with the Outlaws and has seen a notable increase in his fantasy stock.
Anderson has averaged 18.8 fantasy points per game this season, which ranks second out of all short-stick defenseman.
The reason I am so high on Anderson is his ability to stay on the field for offensive sets. Anderson has almost matched his 2023 point total in five fewer games and is on pace to set a new season high for ground balls.
Denver is playing the Boston Cannons on Saturday afternoon. Anderson can be one of the hidden gems to help the Outlaws pull off an upset on the West Coast.
3. Matt Dunn, Defense, Maryland Whipsnakes
Dunn consistently ranks as a top-five defender in the PLL. In 2024, the veteran pole ranks second in both average and total fantasy points among close defenders.
Dunn’s ability to cover opponents’ top offensive players and continue to produce substantial fantasy points shows how exemplary of an asset he is to the Whipsnakes defense.
The Whipsnakes will face off against California in the Redwoods’ second of two games as a part of their Homecoming weekend. California has the lowest scoring offense in the league along with having the lowest shooting percentage at 22.7%.
I would highly recommend putting Dunn in your defender slot for this weekend.
2. Liam Entenmann, Goalie, New York Atlas
After an outstanding PLL debut against the Outlaws during Boston Weekend, Entenmann suffered his first professional loss at the hands of the Cannons in Fairfield.
On the Mitchell Pehlke Lacrosse Show last week, I stated that Entenmann was the best goalie I have ever watched and potentially one of the best players, and I am sticking to my word.
Last week was a minor setback for the rookie. I expect him to have a major bounce-back against the Philadelphia Waterdogs.
Philadelphia has struggled to find the back of the net this season, posting the second-worst shooting percentage in the league at 24.9%.
1. Marcus Holman, Attack, Boston Cannons
At the beginning of the year, I was not a fan of Holman’s playstyle. I believed he was too one-dimensional and couldn’t move as well as other wing attackmen in the league.
But seeing how well Holman complements Asher Nolting and even Pat Kavanagh shows me why he was the Attackman of the Year in 2023.
Holman’s fantasy totals have skyrocketed over the past month. In his past three games, Holman has averaged 48.3 fantasy points.
The Cannons will play Denver on Saturday afternoon. While Outlaws netminder Owen McElroy had a career performance in Fairfield, his defense still allows the most scores per game at 14.2.
