Utah Archers midfielder Grant Ament

PLL Fantasy: Three start ‘em, three sit ‘em for Cash App Championship

By Paul Lamonaca | Sep 12, 2024

Start

Mason Woodward, Defense, Utah Archers (23 coins)

Woodward’s performance in the playoffs has been downright exceptional. In his past three games, Woodward has averaged 29.3 fantasy points, making his presence known each time he steps onto the field.

In the Archers’ semifinal game against the Chaos, Woodward along with the rest of Utah’s defense held Carolina to just one goal – the fewest points scored by any PLL team in league history.

Woodward’s growth as a young defenseman has been amazing to watch after he didn’t total more than 14 points in any of his performances prior to the All-Star break.

Brendan Krebs, Goalie, Maryland Whipsnakes (45 coins)

It should be mentioned that Krebs was not the Whipsnakes’ starter heading into Opening Weekend. That changed after their blowout loss to the New York Atlas in Albany.

Since Krebs has had the starting spot, he’s helped propel Maryland, a team many believed would finish last in the league, to a Cash App Championship appearance.

Krebs has averaged 33 fantasy points per game during the Cash App Playoffs. I believe Krebs can put up another solid performance in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Grant Ament, Midfield, Utah Archers (39 coins)

With Archers star midfielder Tom Schreiber sidelined for Utah’s past three games, Ament has helped pick up the slack for the team's offense.

Since Schreiber’s season-ending injury in Salt Lake City, Ament has averaged 29.6 fantasy points in three games while being guarded by each opponent’s long-stick midfielder.

Ament had a stellar performance in the 2023 Cash App Championship, notching two goals and an assist to help the Archers win their first trophy.

With Ament having experience in this position before, I would highly recommend inserting him into your lineup.

Sit

Mike Sisselberger, Faceoff, Utah Archers (17 coins)

I have not been a fan of Sisselberger’s performance in this season. After a stellar rookie year, his fantasy totals have significantly diminished all summer.

In the semifinals, Sisselberger finished with -2.2 fantasy points. The week prior, he finished with just 3.8 fantasy points.

With Sisselberger matching up against Joe Nardella, a finalist for the Paul Cantabene Faceoff Player of the Year Award, I do not feel confident that he can put up any substantial fantasy points on Sunday.

I would highly recommend you spend the 38 salary coins on Nardella. He’s the better overall specialist, and I’m confident he will outplay Sisselberger.

Matt Rambo, Attack, Maryland Whipsnakes (28 coins)

Overall, this was a tough year for Rambo in fantasy. The 2019 Jim Brown MVP did not have a game this season in which he finished with more than 27 fantasy points, and he had seven games in which he scored fewer than 20 points.

In his two postseason games this year, Rambo has accumulated 20 total fantasy points, all of which came in the semifinals against New York.

I would not recommend rostering Rambo this weekend.

Ryan Conrad, Midfield, Maryland Whipsnakes (15 coins)

After a breakout debut with Maryland in Denver where he finished with 40 fantasy points, Conrad’s totals have cooled down significantly during the playoffs.

In his previous two games, Conrad has averaged 15.5 fantasy points. While there could be an argument that his numbers have stayed consistent in two important games, I think there could be more value in midfielders like Adam Poitras or Levi Anderson

If you want to go the cheap route with a midfielder, I would go with Utah’s Jack VanOverbeke. He is worth 18 salary coins and has averaged 18 fantasy points in his three games played.
