LOS ANGELES – Oct. 16, 2023 – The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) presented by Ticketmaster joins the lacrosse community in celebrating the International Olympic Committee’s decision to add lacrosse to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles

“The IOC’s decision today marks a monumental moment for our sport. We’re thrilled that the first game of North America is returning to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles,” said Paul Rabil, Co-founder and President of the Premier Lacrosse League. “Lacrosse competed for a gold medal at the 1904 and 1908 Summer Olympics, then as a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932 and 1948. The game’s return will be transformative for players and fans around the world, and I look forward to our Olympic format play in the 2024 Championship Series in February. A huge note of gratitude to everyone who participated in helping this come to fruition, especially the LA28 committee, World Lacrosse, and the IOC.”

“Representing your country is among the biggest dreams in sports, and one I was honored to live out. For the incredibly talented lacrosse players around the world to have the opportunity to do so on sport’s biggest stage marks a new era for our sport,” said Rachael DeCecco, VP of Lacrosse at the Premier Lacrosse League and member of the US Women’s National Team from 2003-2008. “I’m thrilled for the athletes in more than 90 countries, and the fans globally, to watch the world’s best lacrosse players compete for Olympic gold in 2028.”

“Global competition in our sport is better than ever, and certainly befits this honor of joining the Olympic Games in 2028,” said Seth Tierney, Head of Competition for the Premier Lacrosse League, assistant coach for the US men's national team, and head coach at Hofstra University. “Seeing lacrosse on the Olympic stage will only fuel our sports growth and continue to inspire future generations. I look forward to seeing lacrosse players’ globally compete to represent their countries, and pursue gold with their teams.”

The Premier Lacrosse League will showcase the Olympic Sixes format to be played at the LA 2028 games during its 2024 Championship Series featuring the league’s top four teams.
