LOS ANGELES – Aug. 15, 2023 – The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) powered by Ticketmaster today announced record-setting attendance at its Baltimore games August 5 and 6 at Homewood Field, becoming the PLL’s highest attended two-day event in league history marked by a sold-out event on August 5.
The attendance achievement comes as the PLL continues to perform across linear television and streaming through its media rights agreement with ESPN. Midway through the 2023 season, average viewership of PLL games is up 25 percent year-over-year on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2.
Through the eighth week of the PLL’s 2023 season, the league also recorded;
- 299 percent increase in PLL app users year-over-year
- 144 percent increase in social media engagement year-over-year
- 63 percent increase in social media impressions year-over-year
- 24 percent ticketing revenue growth year to date
“From impressive game attendance, to social engagement, and valuable fan experience, fans new and established continue to show up for pro lacrosse in their cities, and for their favorite teams and players,” said Mike Rabil, co-founder and CEO of the Premier Lacrosse League. “The success of our in-venue and on-field product mirrors that of our digital fan experience. Our fans have doubled the time they spend in the PLL app this season compared to last, engaging with our new gamified fan achievements, Weekly Fantasy, and in-app content as we continue to invest in our digital offering.”
“With 12 one-goal games, a 121 mile per hour record-breaking fastest shot at our All-Star Weekend, and Sportscenter Top 10 plays every week, there’s never been a better time to be a PLL fan. The competition has been world-class, and we have powerful fan results to show for it.” said Paul Rabil, co-founder and President of the Premier Lacrosse League. “As we head down the homestretch, expect the best lacrosse in the world on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+ as our eight teams battle for playoff seeding ahead of our Quarterfinals this September 4 at Gillette Stadium, culminating at the 2023 PLL Championship Game September 24 in Philadelphia.”
As announced earlier this year, the PLL is set to assign its eight lacrosse clubs to home cities in 2024. The league is now considering 26 finalist markets across the U.S., and is set to announce the final eight cities set to receive PLL teams in Q4 of this year. Since opening voting for fan input, more than 115,000 votes for team home cities have been submitted since June 3.
With three weeks left in the PLL’s regular season, teams are vying for spots in the 2023 PLL playoffs and chance to play for a PLL Championship on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Subaru Park in Philadelphia. To view the PLL schedule and purchase tickets, visit www.premierlacrosseleague.com/schedule.
