On Tuesday, Redwoods LC announced the signings of BJ Farrare and Matt Kilkeary to their training camp roster. The move was among many transactions made around the league as several teams updated their 30-man roster because players were “Unavailable to Travel.”
Redwoods Roster Additions: BJ Farrare and Matt Kilkeary
Farrare, a 5'9", 170-pound LSM from the University of Pennsylvania, was named to an All-Ivy team this year. And over the past two seasons, he scooped up 88 ground balls and caused 27 turnovers. He is set to join John Sexton as the only dedicated LSMs on the team, a role that other players, including the ‘Woods’ first round draft pick, Owen Grant, will likely play.
Speaking of Grant, his college teammate, Kilkeary is now his professional teammate. Standing at 6 feet, Kilkeary recorded a .532 save percentage over his 51-game tenure at the University of Delaware.
His .533 save percentage this season was 17th in the nation, and his 9.44 goals-against average was 5th. He'll share the goalie room with Tim Troutner and Jack Kelly, who will already be competing in the most critical position battle of camp.
Eli McLaughlin and Ryan Lee are Unavailable
Players can get placed on the ‘Unavailable to Travel’ list for several reasons. Currently, Eli McLaughlin and Ryan Lee are on it because their National Lacrosse League (NLL) teams are competing for a championship.
Importantly, once a player is tagged as "Unavailable to Travel," they no longer count against the team's roster. Which is why the Redwoods could sign Farrare and Kilkeary.
As the Redwoods gear up for training camp, their current roster includes 3 goalies, 2 LSMs, 6 defensemen, 3 SSDMs, 3 faceoff specialists, 8 midfielders, and 5 attackmen.
