The California Redwoods made their first move of the offseason, signing attackman Michael Boehm to a one-year contract.

A fourth-round pick in the 2024 College Draft, Boehm spent the last two seasons with the Philadelphia Waterdogs, appearing in one game in 2024 and one in 2025.

Prior to playing in the PLL, Boehm played four seasons at the University of Michigan. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, a two-time All-Big Ten Tournament team selection and a two-time Big Ten Tournament MVP.

He finished his collegiate career as the Wolverines’ all-time leader in goals (133), assists (104) and points (237).

“Mikey is an alpha who competes so hard,” Redwoods general manager Joe Spallina said. “In his time at Michigan, he was often the defensive focal point, drawing teams’ top covers in a great conference.”

While Boehm grew up in Ohio, he and Spallina have history, as the GM saw him play at a camp and recruited him to play with his Team 91 club team. Boehm’s Team 91 teammates included Redwoods midfielders Andrew McAdorey and Aiden Danenza.

“He also has chemistry playing with McAdorey and Danenza as they grew up playing together,” Spallina said, “so that’s an underrated part of the deal.”

Boehm is known as a player who dodges hard to cage and is a strong feeder. The latter is something California is on the hunt for after ranking last in the league in assists in 2025.

Boehm plays the lefty attack position, which Ryder Garnsey has manned for the past seven years. Garnsey, whose contract expired this offseason, was unsigned as of Wednesday evening.
