Sean Quirk steps down as Cannons LC Head Coach and General Manager

By PLL | Dec 9, 2022

LOS ANGELES, CA. (December 9th, 2022) - The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) powered by Ticketmaster has announced that Cannons LC Head Coach and General Manager, Sean Quirk, is stepping down.

Quirk released the following statement:

It is with a heavy heart that I step away from coaching the Cannons Lacrosse Club. I look forward to continuing to work in the PLL with the Academy and other opportunities, alongside a terrific group of people.

I am blessed to have coached the Cannons the last seven years in professional lacrosse. During that time, we built a culture and tradition of respect, trust and accountability. This was because of the players and their commitment to being the best at their craft, along with the leadership they instilled. I am most proud of the relationships built on and off the field with my coaches, players, front office staff, medical staff, training personnel and owners. The appreciation and respect I have for our opponents and officials on game day is authentic. Without the ultra-competitive nature of game day our sport would not be where it is today, especially in the PLL.

Like any journey there are ups and downs, I will forever cherish each relationship built, practice, game, team meeting, film session, collegiate draft and the 2020 Championship in which the Cannons celebrated prior to the merger. I also appreciate and reflect on the adversity we shared. I have always said success teaches us to a certain point, it’s the wall of adversity that drives us to improve more than anything in sport and in the game of life.

Thank you, lacrosse community, the media and incredible fans for seven wonderful years that I spent as the Head Coach of the Cannons. You made the moments memorable and unforgettable.

Most importantly, my family. I look forward to being able to spend more time with my family at this time, with having a recent heart surgery I feel the time to step away from the sideline is important for the time being. My family has been my backbone, they have been my number one supporters during my coaching career. I truly can’t thank them enough for their unconditional love, understanding of long seasons and always being grateful when I walked through the front door after a game weekend, win or lose. I am excited to be able to watch my son and daughter compete at the collegiate level the next several years during their lacrosse careers.

“Coach Quirk’s daily commitment and leadership to the Cannons Lacrosse Club was omnipresent for those both on the field and in the front office,” said Co-Founder and President, Paul Rabil. “There are few people I have come across in this game that have Coach Quirk’s ultra-competitiveness paired with his empathetic approach to the locker room, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in new capacities.”

“We would like to thank Sean for his contributions to the Cannons Lacrosse Club and the PLL,” said Director of Lacrosse Product Rachael DeCecco. “We respect Sean’s decision and we wish him the best moving forward.”

The PLL has formed a hiring committee to determine the next head coach of Atlas LC following Ben Rubeor’s resignation in October. Once the Atlas LC role has been filled, the hiring committee will be responsible for finding the next coach of Cannons LC.
