After suffering an injury against the California Redwoods on July 25, Utah Archers midfielder and captain Tom Schreiber has been placed on the Injured List and has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 season. This is the second consecutive season that Schreiber has had a season-ending injury after he broke his clavicle against the Woods in Salt Lake City last August.
In eight games this summer, the three-time MVP scored 15 points (6G, 9A). Schreiber is a monumental loss for an Archers offense that has struggled in 2025 and needs to produce in a big way this weekend in Boston.
Utah has its back squarely against the wall entering the final weekend of the regular season. The Archers play the Carolina Chaos on Friday night in a must-win contest. The club needs help to make the postseason.
For Utah to clinch a playoff berth, the California Redwoods would have to lose to the Boston Canons, and the Archers would have to beat Carolina and overcome a nine-point scoring differential in the process.
Players including Connor Fields, Sam King, Mac O’Keefe and Tre Leclaire will have to take on the brunt of the scoring for Utah to give itself a chance of overtaking California in the Western Conference playoff picture. Grant Ament’s status is still uncertain after he missed the Archers’ game against the Denver Outlaws in Utah due to injury.
As for who replaces Schreiber in the gameday lineup, Max Merklinger took his spot in the Archers’ second game in Salt Lake City. Merklinger and fellow rookie Bryce Ford are the two options on the Utah roster who could fill in for the injured Schreiber this weekend and in the postseason.
