Oren Lyons has had an immeasurable impact on the sport of lacrosse across his 95 years. Lyons is the Haudenosaunee Faithkeeper of the Wolf Clan for the Onondaga and Seneca Nations and the originator of the Haudenosaunee Nationals lacrosse organization.
In his leadership role as Faithkeeper, Lyons has advocated for the Haudenosaunee to be able to compete in international lacrosse tournaments including the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. He’s given speeches at the United Nations and met with countless international leaders including former U.S. president Joe Biden.
Lyons grew up playing lacrosse in the Onondaga Nation. Back in 1954, Roy Simmons Sr. recruited him to Syracuse where Lyons played until 1958 before graduating with a degree from SU’s College of Fine Arts. He was one of the school’s first Indigenous students. While playing for the Orange, Lyons was a three-time All-American and helped lead Syracuse to the 1957 national championship alongside Jim Brown.
Lyons wore a distinct number in his four years in Syracuse. Do you know which number it was? Check out this week’s Tuesday Trivia question to test yourself and, if you’re correct, earn XP in PLL Nation to build your fan status and start to unlock rewards as you level up your fandom.
