Utah Archers defenseman Graeme Hossack

Utah Archers re-sign All-World defender Graeme Hossack through 2025

On Monday afternoon, the Utah Archers announced the re-signing of All-World close defender Graeme Hossack through 2025. This came just six days after the club re-signed All-Pro midfielder Grant Ament through 2027.

Hossack was another high-priority potential free agent for Utah this offseason. By locking him down for 2025, the Archers have solidified their starting close defense for next season with Hossack slotting in as the club’s No. 1 defender alongside Warren Jeffrey and Mason Woodward. That trio excelled down the stretch of the 2024 season, most notably holding the Maryland Whipsnakes’ deadly attack line to 2-for-27 shooting in the Cash App Championship.

Hossack’s most valuable trait is his versatility. He is a lockdown defender against any type of attackman. The Canadian can match feet with speedsters like Michael Sowers and can go punch-for-punch against heavyweights like Asher Nolting. Hossack is the rare cover defender who can own any matchup, and that’s why he was a critical player for Utah to bring back ahead of the team’s run at a three-peat.

With Hossack, Jeffrey and Woodward down low, the short-stick defensive midfield trio of Piper Bond, Beau Pederson and Connor Maher up top, and two-time Cash App Championship MVP Brett Dobson in the cage, the Archers’ elite defense is almost completely intact for 2025.

Hossack’s new contract only lasting through 2025 is notable. Hossack is 32, and he could view next season as his last hurrah in an attempt to retire off the back of three straight championships. That’s a conversation for another day, though.

For now, Archers fans ought to be ecstatic that the club has re-signed its two biggest free agents. Utah has 11 of 13 starters set to return for 2025, with attackman Matt Moore and long-stick-midfielder Jon Robbins the only two without deals for the upcoming season.
