Waterdogs trade Ryan Conrad to Whipsnakes for 2025 draft pick

Philadelphia Waterdogs midfielder Ryan Conrad has been traded to the Maryland Whipsnakes for a 2025 second-round pick.
After a disappointing season that has left the Waterdogs out of playoff contention with two weeks remaining, Philly opted to unload a two-way midfielder who’s had an underwhelming season.
Conrad has been a consistent contributor for the Waterdogs since he arrived in the expansion draft in 2020, accumulating 58 points over the past four seasons. He has proven himself as a clutch performer, winning an NCAA title at the University of Virginia (2019), a gold medal with Team USA (2023), and a Cash App Championship with the Waterdogs (2022).
His best season came in the Dogs’ 2022 title run, during which he scored 27 points in 11 games. This year, Conrad has totaled six points in seven games with a 14% shooting percentage, all of which are career lows for the two-way middie.
As Philadelphia sits at 1-7, it seems as though head coach and general manager Bill Tierney is looking to prepare for the next chapter.
The Whipsnakes, meanwhile, are prepping for the postseason after rebounding from an 0-2 start. They're one of three teams (along with the New York Atlas and Boston Cannons) who have clinched a playoff spot.
Adding Conrad will help shore up a Maryland midfield that just lost 2023 Rookie of the Year Tucker Dordevic to a jaw injury. Dordevic was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after suffering the injury during Sunday's win over Boston.
The Whipsnakes will face the Denver Outlaws this Friday in Denver (8 p.m. ET). The Whipsnakes will take on the California Redwoods in the nightcap (10:30 p.m. ET).
