Will Manny ruled out of Lexus Championship Series; JJ Sillstrop joins Cannons roster
By Sarah Griffin | Feb 5, 2025
The Boston Cannons will be without veteran attackman Will Manny for the 2025 Lexus Championship Series due to injury, the team announced Wednesday. JJ Sillstrop was added to the roster as his replacement.
Manny’s impact and loss
Expected to be a crucial piece of Boston’s offense in the tournament, Manny has yet to suit up during his second career stint with the Cannons since being signed over the summer.Â
A precise shooter and creative playmaker, the delay of Manny’s Cannons debut is disappointing, to say the least. Manny’s chemistry with longtime teammate Marcus Holman was expected to be a major factor in the team’s offensive production during the tournament.
While details on his injury remain undisclosed, missing the Championship Series is a tough blow for the eight-time All-Star, who has been one of the sport’s most consistent offensive threats throughout his career.
Sillstrop steps in
In response to Manny’s injury, the Cannons have turned to Sillstrop, a standout attackman from the University of Denver who went undrafted in 2024. Now, he’ll be making his professional debut.Â
Sillstrop brings a strong scoring pedigree (116G, 43A at Denver). As a captain in his senior season, he showcased leadership and an ability to perform in high-pressure situations.
Sillstrop will now get the opportunity to make an impact on one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, and perhaps a tryout for a full-time role this summer. His ability to find space and finish plays will be key as the Cannons look to adjust without Manny.
What’s next for the Cannons?
With the Lexus Championship Series looming, the reigning champions will need to reshuffle their offensive strategy. Head coach and general manager Brian Holman and his staff will likely lean on Holman, Asher Nolting and Matt Campbell to carry the offensive load.
Boston's first Championship Series game is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12 against the Utah Archers.
