WLL Golden Stick Award tracker: Black and Mastroianni tied for first after day five

The Golden Stick Award in the Maybelline Women’s Lacrosse League is given to the player with the most goals scored in the tournament. After the fifth day of games, two players share first first place while one is not far behind.

T-1 Sydni Black (12G)

If the lacrosse world was unfamiliar with Sydni Black, they’re certainly aware of who she is now.

Black scored four goals for the third consecutive match to reclaim top spot in the Maybelline WLL Golden Stick Award race.

The forward came to life in the second. She readjusted to the Palms’ defense and went back to her speed off dodges to score.

She attacked from both sides of the field with her dodges using the same stutter step and explosion that got her in first place on the leaderboard. Black even added a crease roll off a transition feed from Caylee Waters.

“I'm really excited for her that she's been in sort of this more exposed bubble, if you will, like less players, but real high exposure,” head coach Taylor Cummings Danseglio said.

T-1 Ally Mastroianni (12G)

Even when it seems like Ally Mastroianni is having a quiet game, she still finds ways to score goals.

Another hat trick means she climbed back up the leaderboard for the Golden Stick.

Mastroianni employed more fakes into her game and faked high as defenders took the bait. Then, she went to their left side and shot after only a couple steps of separation.

Her opponents tried to force her out of the middle, but the captain’s quick feet meant she was able to charge down the middle of the field.

3. Charlotte North (11G)

Charlotte North and Boston love heading to championship matches. The forward scored another hat trick to power the Guard to Monday’s Championship game.

North made famous the sidearm rip, and that’s exactly how she scored her first goal. Her understanding with Cassidy Weeks meant she set a decoy pic that she peeled off to the left and hit the corner.

Similar to Mastroianni, North used fakes to get closer to the cage, but she did so with a fake sidearm rip that allowed the space to open up.

The forward found herself in the middle of the field at one point after she drifted inside. The result was still a sidearm rip that nestled the bottom corner.
