Digital Diaries: Travel to Tokyo with Kait Devir ahead of WLL exhibition game

Twelve WLL players embarked on a journey halfway around the world to face Cross Crosse players in an exhibition game in Tokyo. For California Palms goalie Kait Devir, the trip is for learning about Japanese culture, lacrosse-wise and beyond.

Devir is joined in Tokyo by the Boston Guard's Andie Aldave and Dempsey Arsenault; Maryland Charm's Abby Bosco, Lizzie Colson and Paulina DiFatta; Palms' Ally Mastroianni and Sammy Jo Tracy; New York Charging's Erin Coykendall, Emily Hawryschuk and Izzy Scane; and Megan Kinna. They represented the WLL in the March 15 matchup, but the players arrived in Japan before then for practices, clinics and school visits — and of course sightseeing and food tours.

The WLL team defeated Cross Crosse, and its specially selected Japanese lacrosse players, 20-10. Colson was named the game MVP.

Tokyo is also the host city of the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship, the first world lacrosse championship to be hosted by Japan since 1997. In that world championship, the United States women edged Australia to win it all in Tokyo.

Here are snaps from Devir's day on Wednesday, two days before the exhibition game, explained by the Palms goalie herself:

Devir: Flew over Tokyo at 5:00 p.m., getting an aerial view of the city where I’d be playing lacrosse!

A beautifully arranged sushi platter featuring various types of sushi, sashimi, and a bowl of miso soup. Soy sauce and ginger accompany the meal.

Devir: Grabbed dinner with my teammates around 7:00 p.m. local time, trying new foods and dishes.

Devir: At 8:30 p.m., checked out Lawson’s for unique snacks.

A black hoodie with "CENTRAL JERSEY LACROSSE" printed in large letters, hanging among various other colorful hoodies.

Devir: Came across this New Jersey lacrosse hoodie — makes me think about how I’m exactly where I’m meant to be!
