The Waterdogs LC defense is able to match strength with strength (Chris Sabia) or speed with speed (Eli Gobrecht) depending on their opponent. One matchup remains consistent week-over-week: Ben Randall takes the top assignment.

Randall erased Lyle Thompson, Jackson Morrill, and Zed Williams in three consecutive matchups in 2021. You might’ve interpreted that as hyperbole. It’s not. Those three combined to shoot 0-for-14 with 11 turnovers and zero assists against Randall.

He had a similarly impressive stretch in the 2022 Cash App Playoffs. Randall drew Matt Rambo in the semifinals – a familiar matchup from their Big Ten battles in college. The Ohio State product limited the 2019 MVP to 2-for-8 shooting with four turnovers.

And on the biggest stage of the season, Randall held Josh Byrne to 2-for-6 shooting and a turnover.
