2024 Players Top 50, Nos. 10-1: Atlas, Archers dominate top 10

By PLL Beat Writers | Dec 20, 2024

Boston Cannons attackman Asher Nolting

10. Asher Nolting, Attack, Boston Cannons

2023 rank: sixth

Nolting isn't just playing lacrosse. He's orchestrating it. In 2024, Nolting once again took his game to a whole new level as Boston’s quarterback on offense. With 24 goals and 21 assists this season, he proved he’s just as dangerous creating scoring opportunities as he is finishing them himself. Known for his physical style and slick feeding ability, Nolting consistently kept defenses on their toes. Whether muscling his way into the crease or threading needle-like passes to open teammates, his vision and creativity were on full display for the MVP finalist. He also might just have the most iconic celly in the league. -- Sarah Griffin

New York Atlas SSDM Danny Logan

9. Danny Logan, SSDM, New York Atlas

2023 rank: 18th

Try to run through — or around — Logan and you’ll quickly understand his Hard Hat Award, which recognizes the best SSDM in the game. It’s not Logan’s stats that pop off the page, but rather the shots and assists he prevents. He’s one of the Atlas’ most trusted defenders at any point on the field, whether it’s on the wing or in one-on-one matchups. Last year, when the Atlas were settling into their new home designation of New York, Logan said he related to the New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner and the “scrappy” qualities required for the position. "There’s a trait with all short-stick D-middies that’s innate in their being: They’re tough, they’re relentless, they never give up," Logan said. -- Lauren Merola

Utah Archers attackman Connor Fields

8. Connor Fields, Attack, Utah Archers

2023 rank: 13th

Fields lit the sports world on fire with his one-handed, between-the-legs goal against the Maryland Whipsnakes this summer. The SportsCenter Top-10 highlight goal was one of his 25 in the regular season, tied for the third-most in the league. Fields also helped lead Utah to another title, this time on the field after he missed the 2023 Cash App Championship with a shoulder injury. Over the past two seasons, Fields has rediscovered his flair for the dramatic and established himself as one of the most talented dodgers on the planet. -- Zach Carey

Utah Archers defenseman Graeme Hossack

7. Graeme Hossack, Defense, Utah Archers

2023 rank: seventh

Hossack’s unique combination of brute strength and nimbly quick lateral speed make him the quintessential No. 1 defender. He can own matchups against bruisers or jitterbugs. He spearheaded the Archers’ defense en route to consecutive Cash App Championships, guarding Michael Sowers in the 2023 title bout before taking on Matt Rambo this past September in a display of his absurd versatility as an elite cover defender. -- Zach Carey

Utah Archers goalie Brett Dobson

6. Brett Dobson, Goalie, Utah Archers

2023 rank: 17th

In 2024, Dobson became the PLL’s first two-time Cash App Championship MVP as a result of his lockdown postseason performance, confirming that his breakout 2023 campaign was no fluke. Dobson’s 81% save rate in the Cash App Playoffs carried the Archers to their second consecutive title. He has become one of the most clutch players in the sport armed with the ability to completely take over any game or any opponent from his perch between the pipes. -- Zach Carey

5. Trevor Baptiste, Faceoff, New York Atlas

2023 rank: fourth

Baptiste was trusted to surface from the stripe victorious time and time again. And he delivered, nabbing a league-leading 109 ground balls in the process. His continued dominance at the stripe — he won the Paul Cantabene Faceoff Player of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row — allowed Atlas coach Mike Pressler to play more offense-minded players on the wing. Baptiste often secured the ball and either brought it upfield himself or dumped it off to an offensive midfielder, staying on the field for the offensive set as a major part of the Atlas’ pick game. The scheme also led to the highest efficiency within the 32-second shot clock and five goals for Baptiste, tying his career season high. -- Lauren Merola

Philadelphia Waterdogs attackman Michael Sowers

4. Michael Sowers, Attack, Philadelphia Waterdogs

2023 rank: second

Sowers is one of the most versatile players the league has ever seen. His speed, quickness, vision and IQ make him one of the best in the league. Sowers was one of the lone bright spots for Philadelphia this season, finishing with 18 goals and 19 assists to earn first-team All-Pro honors. Sowers is every coach’s dream player when it comes to building an offense around a true facilitator. -- Paul Lamonaca

Carolina Chaos goalie Blaze Riorden

3. Blaze Riorden, Goalie, Carolina Chaos

2023 rank: second

Andy Towers has described Riorden as an “alien,” and this ranking is more proof of that description. This season featured his fifth Oren Lyons Goaltender of the Year Award, his first professional goalie goal and countless clutch saves when the Chaos needed them most. Riorden is known as the best in the world for a reason. -- Hayden Lewis

Utah Archers attackman Tom Schreiber

2. Tom Schreiber, Midfield, Utah Archers

2023 rank: first

The best midfielder in the world continued to produce at an elite level in his 11th professional season. In 2024, Schreiber won his fifth Midfielder of the Year Award in six years while finishing the regular season with 27 points in nine games and leading the league in midfield points per game. He also became the fifth player to join professional lacrosse’s 400-point, 200-assist club as his penchant for cross-field underhand feeds with either hand continues to separate him as one of the greatest midfielders ever. Arguably, Schreiber’s greatest impact came after he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. He instilled confidence in his teammates via his presence on the sideline and in the locker room, helping to co-pilot the club to a second consecutive title run in the process. -- Zach Carey

1. Jeff Teat, Attack, New York Atlas

2023 rank: 11th

Teat redefined what’s possible this season, setting the PLL single-season points record with 64. He passed the previous league mark of 44 in just seven games while no other PLL player posted more than 39 points this season. It was a historic year for Teat, starting with a career-high 11 points and career-high seven assists in the Atlas’ first matchup of the season. He posted a nine-point performance (6G, 3A) later in the season and tallied four or more points in all but one game. His point production was due in part to his stick skills and aim. Coupled with his instincts, Teat — the MVP and Attackman of the Year — always put the ball where it needed to be.

“I’ve done this for 42 years. I’ve coached longer than these guys have been alive, so I think I've seen it all,” Atlas coach Mike Pressler said at the 2024 PLL Awards. “When you watch Jeff Teat, you haven’t seen it all.” -- Lauren Merola
