Neither Chrome LC or Atlas LC wanted to go 0-3 on a national stage. With both rosters filled with some of the greatest to ever play the game, it was going to be a fight to the finish to maintain a reputation.
This match-up started with the story between both team’s faceoff specialists, Connor Farrell, and Trevor Baptiste. Trevor showed up big today and was 17-26 for FOs.
Chrome vs. Atlas started out as a major shootout in the first quarter, with Chrome leading 5-4 going into the second quarter. Noah Richard (Atlas) and Romar Dennis (Chrome) headlined the first quarter with notable two-point bombs to give their respective teams a much-needed boost.
Atlas showed up on fire in the second quarter and Chrome was unable to produce any sort of answer during those twelve minutes. John Paul’s Atlas team took back the lead going into halftime, 8-6, with Chris Cloutier coming in hot with two of those goals - Kieran McArdle and Ryan Brown scoring the other two for the Bulls.
Atlas started out the third quarter on a good note with Connor Buczek scoring and bringing his team to a healthy 9-6 lead. However, Chrome showed that they weren’t going to fold under the pressure. They mounted a triumphant comeback throughout the second half to give them a 10-9 lead at one point. Another tight game came down to the wire this weekend, and at the start of the fourth quarter, it was anyone's guess.
The comeback was on for Atlas in the fourth with Buczek coming out the gate with two straight goals, giving his team the 11-10 lead. Brown followed up for Atlas with another goal to extend it 12-10. At this point, it looked wrapped up for Atlas but Chrome was not finished. Goals from standouts Justin Guterding and Jordan MacIntosh tied it up 12-12. However, Chrome was defeated in heartbreaking fashion for the third straight week. With 48 seconds left in the game, Buczek came to the rescue for the Atlas to put the team up 13-12 and secure their first win of the season.
