Whipsnakes vs. Chaos Game 1 Recap

In a matchup of two of the most talented teams in the PLL, Chaos vs. Whipsnakes Saturday afternoon did not disappoint.

Whipsnakes attackman Jules Heningburg immediately set the tone for his team with a rapid goal within 10 seconds of the game. The rest of the quarter saw continued domination from Jim Stagnitta’s Whipsnakes team. The team was anchored by goals from attackmen Matt Rambo and Ben Reeves.

After starting down 4-0, Jake Froccaro led a slight moment of resilience, burying a two-pointer and cutting the Whipsnakes’ lead in half. However, the comeback was short lived. Whipsnakes star Ryan Drenner brought the team up 7-3 after scoring the first goal of the second quarter. They continued to rain down goals and set the tone for the half - Connor Kelly bringing the Whipsnakes up to a 8-3 lead.

“Let’s see some patience, let’s get into a flow on offense,” Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers said at the end of the second quarter. This is a coach with faith in the process.

Chaos’ comeback started immediately in the second half with a Thomas Kelly goal coming within seven seconds. The Chaos eventually fought their way back to narrow the margin by one goal at the end of the third quarter.

A keystone of Chaos’ Canadian contingent, Josh Byrne, had an early goal to start the fourth quarter. This dramatically put the Chaos up for the first time all game with a 14-13 lead. At this point it seemed like the comeback was complete.

However, that comeback ended in vain. Drew Snider, another former Maryland Terrapin on the Whipsnakes roster, won the game for Stagnitta and his team with a roaring shot 52 seconds into overtime. Two PLL games, two dramatic overtime finales.

The Chaos will next play Atlas, June 9th at 2:00 pm ET, at Red Bull Arena; The Whipsnakes will play the Chrome on the day before (June 8th) at 1:00pm ET.
