PLL Fantasy: Paul’s top 5 for Cash App Playoff semifinals

By Paul Lamonaca | Sep 7, 2024

5. Mason Woodward, Defense, Utah Archers

The first-round draft pick out of Marquette was a huge asset for Utah in the second half of the season.

In his last five games, Woodward has averaged 22.6 fantasy points – a remarkable number not just for a defenseman, but for a rookie, as well.

Carolina is Utah’s opponent in Saturday’s Cash App Playoff semifinals, and the Chaos’s biggest weakness is their ability to create offense. Not only did Carolina have the fewest scores during the regular season, but it also took the fewest shots of any team.

Regardless of Woodward's matchup, I believe he can win his one-on-ones and be able to match his recent averages to help Utah win the game.

4. Liam Entenmann, Goalie, New York Atlas

I’m a firm believer that if Entenmann was the starter from the get-go for New York, he would be the clear-cut Rookie of the Year.

In his six games played, Entenmann has a 59% save percentage, and over his last three games, he’s averaged 35 fantasy points.

While New York did lose to Maryland in the regular season, the Whipsnakes’ offense saw little time against Entenmann, as he did not enter that game until the fourth quarter.

Their semifinal will be a different game than what we saw in June, as Entenmann has proven he can be one of the top netminders in the league.

3. Adam Poitras, Midfield, Maryland Whipsnakes

Once viewed as a questionable pick by head coach Jim Stagnitta in the 2024 College Draft, Poitras has proven to be a sufficient scorer in a budding Maryland offense.

Poitras has averaged 17.3 fantasy points per game this season and came up big for the Whips in their quarterfinal win over the Denver Outlaws, finishing with 19 fantasy points off a goal and an assist.

I like Poitras this weekend because he is often forgotten by opposing defenses that are trying to limit goals from players like TJ Malone and Zed Williams

If you need a cheap midfielder, go with Poitras.

2. Blaze Riorden, Goalie, Carolina Chaos

We are witnessing the greatest goalie of his generation each time Riorden suits up for Carolina. Without him as the backbone to their defense, the Chaos would not be playing in the semifinals on Saturday.

Riorden finished Monday’s quarterfinal win with a league-leading 52 fantasy points. Prior to that, Riorden’s game average after the All-Star break was 38.8 fantasy points per game.

With the Archers facing the injury bug after losing 2023 Jim Brown Most Valuable Player Tom Schreiber during Salt Lake City Weekend, Riorden is poised for another monster weekend. Let’s see if he can bring his team into title contention yet again.

1. Jeff Teat, Attack, New York Atlas

The numbers speak for themself. The soon-to-be awarded 2024 MVP had the best regular season out of any player since the league's inaugural season in 2019.

How dominant has Teat been? Let’s put it this way: The lefty attackman has been the most expensive player in fantasy (capped at 50 salary coins) and still holds the highest ROI in the entire league.

In his last three outings, Teat has averaged 66.6 fantasy points per game. Just outright monstrous numbers.

I will be putting Teat into my lineup for this weekend. I am willing to fork over the 50 coins for a player who has been constantly producing regardless of opponent.
