By PLL | Jan 14, 2021

LOS ANGELES, CA. (January 14, 2021) - The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced today the official launch of its 2021 season. The announcement noted the PLL’s return to a tour-based format, including 43 total games over 11 weekends spanning from June 4th through the PLL Championship on September 19th.

“Our team is monitoring the evolution of COVID-19 and ongoing access to vaccinations, and we remain steadfast in working closely with our medical committee to deliver a safe path forward to our 2021 season,” says PLL’s CEO and Co-Founder Mike Rabil. “The ability to travel and perform in markets across North America is core to the foundation of the PLL, which emphasizes growth of lacrosse through access to the world’s best players.”

The announcement of the 2021 season includes tentpoles of Opening Weekend, All-Star Game, and a three-weekend playoff structure: quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship. Details regarding specific dates and cities for 2021 PLL weekends are still forthcoming.

The PLL’s 2021 season will be produced and distributed on the NBC Universal family of networks. This marks the third season of partnership between PLL and NBC.

“We believe our broadcast, cable and streaming package will continue to offer tremendous value by way of exposure and innovation through all screens and sizes, exhilarating our base and adding net new fans to lacrosse,” says PLL Co-Founder and CMO, Paul Rabil. “We have seen significant viewership growth in our first and second seasons, and look forward to delivering a world-class product in 2021 with our partners at NBC.”

The PLL recently announced a merger with Major League Lacrosse, leading to the addition of the PLL’s 8th lacrosse club - Cannons LC. The merger will also grow the existing player pool with former MLL players and add 20 years of archived games, champions, and statistical leaders for fans to consume. Details on how former MLL players will enter the league are forthcoming.

Coming off of a fanless bubble in August of 2020, the league is working to determine a best course of action for ticketing, keeping player and fan safety top of mind. The PLL has created a link for those seeking updates regarding ticketing and season announcements as they become available.
