Redwoods hire Chris Bocklet as offensive coordinator

The California Redwoods completed their coaching staff by hiring Chris Bocklet as the offensive coordinator.

Bocklet enjoyed a successful career at the college and professional levels. At the University of Virginia, he was a three-time All-American and helped the Cavaliers win the national championship in 2011.

A fourth-round draft pick, Bocklet spent his first five seasons in Major League Lacrosse with the Denver Outlaws. In his second season, he was named an All-Star, and he finished the season first in the MLL in goals (42) and tied with Kevin Crowley for the league lead in points (55). He helped the Outlaws win championships in 2014 and 2016.

One of his teammates in 2014 was new Redwoods head coach Anthony Kelly. Kelly noted Bocklet’s championship-filled resume as something California’s players can learn from, and he said he’s very excited to get the opportunity to work with Bocklet again.

“Chris was a no-brainer for me to add to our staff,” Kelly said. “He was not only an incredible player in his day, but he’s an even better person.”

“He brings the attitude, drive and focus that we are looking for in our Redwoods players,” he added.

Bocklet was part of the Chrome in the inaugural Premier Lacrosse League season, and he’s happy to once again be involved in the league.

While he is well-known as a player, Bocklet has also been coaching and helping develop young players for many years.

In 2013, he led Wheat Ridge High School (Colorado) to its first lacrosse state championship. The following year, he helped Allen High School (Texas) reach its first Final Four and was named Assistant Coach of the Year. For the next four years, he was the offensive coordinator at Westlake High School (Texas), which won the Central District championship each year.

More recently, Bocklet has been the director of X10 Lacrosse alongside his brothers, Mike and Matt, and his sister, Casey. He also is the director of Strike Lacrosse Club.

“Being part of the Redwoods organization and helping lead some of the best players in the world is an honor I don’t take lightly,” Bocklet said. “I’m beyond excited to get to work, build relationships and pour everything I have into this team. I’m counting down the days until training camp and can’t wait to be on the field with the guys.”
