Waterdogs hand Whipsnakes first loss of season, 11-10

By Joe Keegan | Jul 3, 2022

Whipsnakes LC has trailed at halftime every game this season. And every time, they've come back for a win -- until Saturday night in Minnesota when Kieran McArdle (3G) and the Waterdogs held off the Whipsnakes' second half surge.

McArdle buried a natural hat trick in the fourth quarter. He put on a clinic of clutch play. His first goal surpassed Ryan Powell for 14th all-time in career points.

Michael Sowers (3G), Ryan Conrad (2G), Zach Currier (2G) and Jack Hannah (2A) played key roles for the 'Dogs offense, too. Dillon Ward's (12 saves, 67%) return to the crease threw off Whipsnakes' shooters all game long.

Sowers dodged fearlessly. After beating Chaos as a point guard, the second-year attackman was defending as a passer -- so he dodged to shoot.

"The Whipsnakes are kind of the standard of the league. To go out and get a win in that fashion where it's back and forth... three weeks ago back in Charlotte, that was the exact game we lost," said Sowers. "We definitely took a couple steps forward today. And as a team we're just going to continue to get better the more we play together."

The Waterdogs will face off against Chrome (4-1) on Sunday, July 24th at 4:30pm ET in Fairfield, CT. The Whipsnakes will face Chaos in a rematch of the 2021 Championship on Saturday, July 23rd at 7:45pm ET.
