Way-too-early 2025 PLL mock draft
By Adam Lamberti | Jul 25, 2024
While the season is still happening, it’s never too early to look ahead to the 2025 College Draft.
If the current standings hold, the California Redwoods would hold the No. 1 overall pick. While there will certainly be a lot of change between now and next April, here’s an idea of how a draft could go in 2025:
Round 1
No. 1: California Redwoods - CJ Kirst (Attack - Cornell)
The top prospect in this class right now, Kirst is a dynamic lefty who can score in bunches and is a fierce competitor.
No. 2: Philadelphia Waterdogs - Ben Wayer (LSM - Virginia)
Just a monster in the middle of the field. Racking up 13 points (7G, 6A) and 98 ground balls as a junior, Wayer has all the tools to be a big-time LSM.
No. 3: Maryland Whipsnakes - Andrew McAdorey (Midfield - Duke)
The Whipsnakes could use some more pop for their offensive midfield. McAdorey certainly will bring that with his speed and athleticism. The Whipsnakes could also deploy him on faceoff wings like they’ve done with rookies Jack Koras and Adam Poitras.
No. 4: Denver Outlaws - Brendan Lavelle (Defense - UPenn)
Lavelle was always a top defenseman but made himself a household name after shutting down Brennan O’Neill last season. He's a fundamental righty who should slot right into a starting spot if the Outlaws don’t re-sign aging Jesse Bernhardt or Mike Manley.
No. 5: Carolina Chaos - Chris Kavanagh (Attack - Notre Dame)
I think the Chaos would be a good landing spot for Kavanagh. A sharpshooting righty, he would have a chance to start immediately on the right wing. I also think he could be a capable midfielder with his ability to shoot on the run.
No. 6: Utah Archers - Sam English (Midfield - Syracuse)
English would bring speed and creativity to the Archers midfield. He’s capable of making impactful plays in the middle of the field as well.
No. 7: Boston Cannons - Coulter Mackesy (Attack - Princeton)
Mackesy has been one of the best attackers in the nation since his freshman year. A dynamic and quick lefty, he would have a chance to start on the left wing if the Cannons don’t re-sign Matt Kavanagh.
No. 8: New York Atlas - Levi Verch (LSM - Saint Joseph’s)
Verch reminds me of Owen Grant. The Canadian lefty plays mean and has the chops in transition and the middle of the field to be an impactful pro.
Round 2
No. 9: California Redwoods - Ben Ramsey (SSDM - Notre Dame)
Ramsey has been a steady presence for Notre Dame for a while. He would be an excellent pairing alongside former teammate Brian Tevlin at the defensive midfield position.
No. 10: Philadelphia Waterdogs - Colin Mulshine (Defense - Princeton)
A First Team All-Ivy selection in 2024 who held CJ Kirst to two points.
No. 11: Maryland Whipsnakes - Jake Taylor (Attack - Notre Dame)
The Whipsnakes have missed an inside attack presence since the retirement of Jay Carlson. Taylor is the best off-ball attacker in the nation. I would love this pick for the Whipsnakes.
No. 12: Denver Outlaws - Scott Smith (Defense - Johns Hopkins)
Smith was high on my board before returning to school. He could be an immediate starter alongside Lavelle if the Outlaws overhaul their aging defense.
No. 13: Carolina Chaos - Griffin Schutz (Midfield - Virginia)
Schutz is a physical presence who can shoot it on the run with both hands. He'd be a nice righty counterpart to Eric Dobson on that Chaos midfield.
No. 14: Utah Archers - Sam King (Attack - Harvard)
King is one of the best players in the nation. A strong dodger from X, he’d be an intriguing pair alongside lefties Mac O’Keefe and Connor Fields that would allow Matt Moore to slide back to midfield.
No. 15: Boston Cannons - Jack Fracyon (Goalie - Penn State)
The first goalie goes off the board in the form of Fracyon. He’s capable of taking over a game. He and Emmett Carroll are neck and neck for the top goalie in the class.
No. 16: New York Atlas - Owen Hiltz (Attack - Syracuse)
The Atlas offense is already stacked, but Hiltz is too good a playmaker to pass up here.
Round 3
No. 17: Utah Archers (via California Redwoods) - Jack Stuzin (LSM/D - Yale)
Stuzin is an athletic righty who had six goals last season. Look for him to have an even better senior season roaming the middle of the field.
No. 18: Philadelphia Waterdogs - Emmet Carroll (Goalie - UPenn)
If the Waterdogs aren’t sure if Dillon Ward is the long-term starter, they can nab the athletic Carroll, who led the nation in save percentage in 2024.
No. 19: Maryland Whipsnakes - Mike Grace (D/LSM - Syracuse)
The RIT graduate transfer is a smooth playmaker in the middle of the field who could be the Whipsnakes’ primary LSM from Day 1.
No. 20: Denver Outlaws - Matt Traynor (Attack/Midfield - Penn State)
I would like this fit for Traynor here. A crafty righty, he could score a bunch of goals as an off-ball presence in this Outlaws offense.
No. 21: Carolina Chaos - Casey Wilson (SSDM - Denver)
Wilson’s experience playing for Team Canada in the World Games coupled with his offensive skill set make him an intriguing prospect.
No. 22: Utah Archers - Greg Campisi (LSM - Notre Dame)
Campisi plays fast – perfect for the PLL. I’m excited to see what he does in the ACC after transferring in from Harvard.
No. 23: Maryland Whipsnakes (via Boston Cannons) - Patrick Hackler (Midfield - Johns Hopkins)
Hackler has played both offensive and defensive midfield in college. He’s another athletic specimen the Whipsnakes can deploy in a multitude of ways.
No. 24: New York Atlas - Jimmy Freehill (Defense - Denver)
The 2024 Big East Defender of the Year anchored a stout Pioneers defense last season and is a safe bet to continue his strong play as a senior.
Round 4
No. 25: California Redwoods - Hugh Kelleher (Midfield - Cornell)
The Redwoods could use another offensive midfielder. Kelleher is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound righty who can bring it with his feet set.
No. 26: Philadelphia Waterdogs - Jack Gray (SSDM - Duke)
Another battle-tested SSDM from the ACC, Gray is a physical righty and has ideal size and athleticism at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds.
No. 27: California Redwoods (via Maryland Whipsnakes) - Michael Long (Attack - Cornell)
Long is just a good lacrosse player that has produced his whole career. Kirst’s counterpart at Cornell, they reunite with the Redwoods in this mock draft.
No. 28: Denver Outlaws - Kevin Parnham (Defense - Penn State)
The Outlaws continue to bring youth to their defense with the addition of Parnham, a reliable lefty starter for the Nittany Lions when healthy.
No. 29: Carolina Chaos - Will Lynch (Faceoff - Notre Dame)
Nick Rowlett is facing off below 40%. Lynch is a two-time national champion who has gotten better every season.
No. 30: Utah Archers - Max Krevsky (Midfield - Yale)
The lone captain for Yale this upcoming season, Krevsky is an athletic and physical midfielder who can shoot it with both hands. Had 27 goals last year while shooting an impressive 32%.
No. 31: Boston Cannons - Will Coletti (Faceoff - Army)
Zac Tucci is holding his own this season, but Coletti is a 2024 First-Team All-American who produces in big moments and is a high-level competitor. He would go higher if he didn’t have questions about his availability.
No. 32: New York Atlas - AJ Pilate (Defense - Army)
Similarly to Coletti, Pilate would go higher if he didn’t attend a service academy. That being said, he’s been a top defender in the nation since freshman year and is a joy to watch. A high-risk, high-reward pick for the Atlas with the last selection.
