Whipsnakes LC vs. Atlas LC Week 6 Recap

A thunderstorm in the greater D.C. area saw the start of Saturday night’s Whipsnakes and Atlas matchup get pushed back by almost an hour. However, once the weather cleared up both teams were raring to go.

The first quarter couldn’t have started out better for Atlas, with a goal right off the bat from John Crawley. However, things soon began to unravel for the blue and white with the Whipsnakes offense coming out hot in the first quarter. The Whipsnakes would go on to score five straight goals in the first and build a commanding 5-1 lead. Their faceoff man, Joe Nardella, was the dominating force in the first quarter with two of those goals. After an exchange from each team of two goals each, the Whipsnakes headed into the second quarter up 7-3.

Before heading into the half, we saw goals from Atlas’ Eric Law and Whipsnakes’ Jay Carlson, but the dominating performance from the Whipsnakes remained as they headed into halftime with a four-goal lead.

In a matchup with preexisting history, Atlas came out in the third swinging with three straight goals from Paul Rabil, Ryan Brown, and Connor Buczek. This three-goal streak would put them in a chomping distance of the Whipsnakes, only down by two goals heading into the fourth after a quick score from Whipsnakes’ Jake Bernhardt.

In a game that was delayed multiple times due to thunder, it was only natural things ended on an electrifying note.

Kyle Hartzell and Eric Law scored two big-time goals to tie this one up for Atlas late in the fourth quarter. However, the clutch king Ryan Drenner came out with a last minute goal to put the Whipsnakes up 10-9 with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Newly named All Star Bryce Young was also able to score a quick follow up goal, sealing the Whipsnakes’ 11-9 victory and allowing them to sweep Atlas in this inaugural season.

Whipsnakes LC play again June 27th at 6pm MDT against the Chaos LC, in Denver.
