The PLL Postseason Bracket

Like everything the PLL does, we are looking to redefine the typical postseason structure to make it more exciting and engaging for our fans.  The PLL Postseason Bracket has been designed to:

  • Make regular season performance matter
  • Give every team something to play for
  • Mitigate “tanking”

The Postseason Bracket will be split into two portions: Battle for the Championship and Battle for the 1st Draft Pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft.  Teams that are ranked #1 and #2 at the end of the regular season will have a guaranteed chance of vying for the Championship.  Teams ranked #5 and #6 will have a guaranteed chance of vying for the 1st overall draft pick in next year’s draft.  Depending on the postseason performances of the #3 and #4 seeds will determine whether they have a chance at being crowned the Champion or a shot at the first overall draft pick.

Week 1

Except for the #3 Seed v. #4 Seed game, Week 1 is designed to award the winning teams with byes for the Week 2 games.  The winner of the #3 Seed v. #4 Seed game will remain in the Battle for the Championship Bracket while the loser will move to the Battle for the 1st Draft Pick bracket.

Week 2

In Week 2, all losing teams from the prior week will play plus the winner of the #3 Seed v. #4 Seed game.  The losing team in the Week 2 game of the Battle for the Championship bracket will be awarded the 4th overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft, while the losing team in the Week 2 game of the Battle for the 1st Draft Pick will be awarded the 3rd overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft.   Each of the losing teams in Week 2 will be eliminated from the remainder of the postseason.

Week 3

In the Battle for the Championship bracket, the winner of the Week 1 #1 Seed v. #2 Seed game will play the winner of the Week 2 game in the Battle for the Championship bracket.  The winner of this game will be crowned the PLL Champion and receive the 6th overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft, while the losing team will receive the 5th overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft.

In the Battle for the 1st Draft Pick bracket, the winner of the Week 1 #5 Seed v. #6 Seed game will play the winner of the Week 2 game in the Battle for the 1st Draft Pick bracket.  The winner of this game will receive the 1st overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft, while the losing team will receive the 2nd overall draft pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft.
