Archers LC vs. Whipsnakes LC Week 3 Recap

The Archers and Whipsnakes, two undefeated teams, faced off in slippery conditions to finally set straight who’s the better sharp-shooter in the PLL.

Whipsnakes came out early in the first quarter with a 4-0 lead, with the Archers offense getting off to an uncharacteristically slow start, finishing the quarter without a goal. All eyes were on Mike Chanenchuk of the Whipsnakes in the first, with a quick goal and laser two-pointer. The former Maryland Terp clearly showed up to play today.

Joe Locascio started out the second quarter on a good note for the Whipsnakes, bringing them up 5-1, but things would drastically change. The Archers came out hot in the second quarter, going on a ridiculous run scoring six straight goals and hurdling ahead to a 7-5 lead. Tom Schreiber, the veteran leader, took the reigns and led his teammates throughout the day.

After the flurry of activity in the second quarter, things were unexpectedly quiet in the third. A goal from each team made this one 8-6 to start off the fourth quarter.

Kevin Rice notably scored his first PLL goal in the fourth quarter, extending the Archers’ lead 9-6.

Whipsnakes answered back with a goal from Connor Kelly and a crucial 2-point bomb from Ryan Drenner, with just under four minutes left in the fourth quarter to tie this one up 9-9. After an exchange of goals on each side from Marcus Holman and Drenner, this one headed into OT at 10 apeice. This was still anyone's game and both the Whipsnakes and Archers showed they would not be letting up.

Drenner was the hero on the day, getting his team tied up in the fourth and then sealing the deal, scoring the game winner off  an assist from Drew Snider and Jules Heningburg in OT. What a display from Ryan Drenner this week, we have to check what’s in his veins. I’m pretty sure it’s just pure ice at this point.

Whipsnakes play again in Baltimore on June 22 at 7:30pm EST against Atlas.

Archers play again in Baltimore on June 23 at 3:30pm EST against Chaos.
