PLL's record-setting attendance for Whipsnakes vs. Redwoods Championship game.

Premier Lacrosse League Announces Record-Setting Attendance From Inaugural Championship Game In Philadelphia

LOS ANGELES, CA. (September 25, 2019) - The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced today an attendance total of 12,556 from the inaugural PLL Championship this past Saturday (Sep. 21) at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, PA. - the highest ever single attended event in league history.

Fans witnessed a 2:30 PM Championship game face-off between Whipsnakes LC and Redwoods LC that pitted the league’s top two teams as both were looking to take home the Crown. After a roaring Whipsnakes start that saw them build up a seemingly unbeatable seven-goal lead, Redwoods LC defied the odds to battle back in the second half and take a 11-10 lead late in the fourth quarter. However, the comeback fell short following heroics from hometown hero and newly crowned league MVP, Matt Rambo. The Whipsnakes’ star scored both the tying goal late in regulation and the immediate overtime winner to give coach Jim Stagnitta’s team a 12-11 victory.

The entire Championship game and 30-minute post-game celebratory award show was broadcasted live on NBC Network, with behind-the-scenes access available to NBC Sports Gold subscribers. The four-person broadcast crew was led by Brendan Burke, Ryan Boyle, Chantel McCabe, and PLL co-founder, Paul Rabil. Total Audience Delivery (TAD) for the Championship Game on Saturday was 276,000, though as Redwoods LC launched their comeback in the second half, viewership increased and peaked at 313,000 making this the third most viewed outdoor professional lacrosse game in the history of network television.

The day’s early action got off to an explosive start as Atlas LC took on Archers LC with both teams looking to secure the No. 1 Draft Pick in the 2020 PLL College Draft. An absolutely dominant offensive performance from Archers LC led by attackmen Will Manny, Marcus Holman and Christian Cuccinello left an Atlas LC team with little response, and a comprehensive 25-7 victory. In their sensational performance, Archers LC set the following records: team goals in a single game (25), goals in a single game by a player (Will Manny; 7), and points in a single game by a player (Will Manny; 11).

Championship Weekend began with the Inaugural PLL Awards Ceremony on Thursday, followed by team practices, and the No. 1 Draft Pick and Championship games on Saturday. For a 14th week this summer, social conversation dominated Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, setting a league-record 24.1 million impressions and 1.7 million video views across all PLL channels.
