2022 Players Top 50: #35 Eric Law

By Sarah Griffin

Dec 6, 2022

In his tenth professional season, Eric Law exceeds the standards of a seasoned veteran and shows no signs of slowing down.

The voice of a lethal Atlas offense on attack alongside Jeff Teat and Chris Gray, Law excels in his ability to work off-ball, find gaps in the defense, and move the ball as efficiently as possible, and before you know it he’s putting the finish on the play right on the doorstep.

Law led the league in shooting percentage with a 55%, burying 18 of his 33 shots. Of his 18 goals, 16 were assisted, a testament to the fluidity of this offense guided by Law himself.

“E-Law overall is a very underrated player,” said teammate and fellow Atlas captain Trevor Baptiste. “All the skills he brings to the game, it’s so impressive how precise he is. He had the highest shooting percentage in the whole league and he’s doing that without needing to have the ball in his stick.”

A sharpshooter on the field, Law’s also known throughout the lacrosse community for his sportsmanship and dedication to the sport. He has won the Dave Huntley Sportsmanship Award two years in a row for the work he does with Denver City Lax, putting sticks in hands and growing the game.

“I’ve been given so many opportunities because of lacrosse. I want to give the same chance at these kinds of opportunities back to kids who might not typically get it,” said Law. “I want to help create more diversity in the sport and make lacrosse more financially-accessible. Regardless of your gender, your race, your social economic class, everyone deserves the opportunity to play lacrosse and it truly is for everybody.”

Lauded as perhaps the nicest guy in the sport of lacrosse, make no mistake; this guy’s a fierce competitor.

“He has a switch - he’ll always fight to win the game,” said Baptiste.

Both University of Denver products, Baptiste recalled an alumni game with himself still playing for Denver and Law on the alumni team.

“I already knew Eric beforehand so I knew what a competitive guy he is, but all the freshmen meeting him for the first time were like, ‘oh man that E-Law guy is so nice,’and then opening whistle blows [at the alumni game] and this guy is like, blowing people up! Knocking guys offsides, yelling, getting really into it, and everyone who didn’t know him was just like ‘woah!’” laughed Baptiste.

A commander of the offense, precise shooter, fierce competitor, and leader on and off the field, Eric Law is the foundation of this Atlas team.
